Names being tossed around for the next Treasury Secretary who will inherit one of the most powerful positions in the world with the world’s financial crisis include:
Timothy Geithner – Current President of the New York Federal Reserve [Very good chance]
Jon Corzine – Governor of New Jersey and a former Goldman Sachs executive [I doubt it given Jon's ties to Wall Street]
Paul Volcker – former Federal Reserve chairman who served during the 1970s economic quagmire. [Likely not, Paul is 82.]
Larry Summers – former Treasury Secretary under President Clinton and President of Harvard [I doubt it; I see Obama breaking from the past]
Robert Rubin - former Treasury Secretaries under President Clinton; however, Bob is a former Goldman executive and currently a director at Citigroup [I doubt it; I see Obama breaking from the past]
Sheila Bair – current FDIC Chairman [I doubt it; I think they want someone that has been more directly in the battle zone.]
My guess with “limited information” is that Tim Geithner could be offered the position, but this is a very early take on what is happening. Let’s watch.
